Giants of the Karakoram
A journey into the realm of the giants, where ice and stone shape one of the most dramatic landscapes on Earth.
A Landscape Beyond Imagination
In the remote mountains of northern Pakistan, the landscape unfolds on a scale that is difficult to comprehend. Peaks rise beyond 8,000 metres, immense glaciers descend through valleys of fractured rock, and towering pyramids of ice emerge against the sky. Here, the mountains are more than a backdrop. They define the world around them.
This photographic project explores the Karakoram through black and white, seeking to reveal the structure and character of this extraordinary landscape. Stripped of colour, the mountains become studies in light and shadow, their immense forms shaped by contrasts, textures and the interplay between rock, snow and ice.
The landscape carries a sense of deep geological time. Jagged ridgelines, sculpted ice and vast fields of stone bear witness to forces that operate far beyond the scale of human life. What appears monumental from a distance becomes intricate at closer range, revealing an endless variety of forms and patterns.
To photograph these mountains is to confront both their overwhelming presence and their remarkable detail. It is an exercise in observation, an attempt to understand a landscape that resists easy interpretation and to find, within its immensity, moments of clarity and stillness.
